James is a first-year Ph.D. student in East Asian Languages & Literatures. He received his A.B. from Princeton, where he majored in Philosophy and minored in Humanistic Studies, French, and East Asian Studies. He then pursued an MPhil in China Studies (Philosophy and Religion) at Peking University, where he studied as a Yenching Scholar; and then read for an MPhil in Pre-modern Chinese Studies at Cambridge. His research interests include Eastern Han epistemology; early Chinese arguments about the psychological impact of ritual; intellectual synthesis, syncretism, and systematization through early China and a bit beyond (c. 500 CE); and meaningful dialogue between Chinese and Western philosophy. James is also an avid choral singer.
