Maggie Weng
Maggie Maoge Weng’s research interests center on Chinese theatre, performance theories, and the socio-cultural history of late imperial China. She is also drawn to conceptual history, especially exploring the dynamic interplay between “notion” and “action.” Before joining Yale, Maggie earned her M.A. from the Department of Drama and Theatre at National Taiwan University. Fascinated by how theatre shapes societal perceptions, her master’s thesis investigated the social and emotional constructs behind the concept that “life is like a drama” in Chinese historical contexts, along with the mutual influence between this idea and theatrical practices during the late Ming and early Qing periods. This exploration continues to inform and inspire her current academic pursuits.
